Converts from 911's here?

Has anyone here migrated to a Boxster from a 997, and if so, are you glad you made the switch, and why?

If you have not already, I would suggest reading the thread "What is so special about the Boxster", which is very insightful and should answer a few of your questions. Click on the link I have provided for you below. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the link. Very interesting reading.

I started my Porsche experience in 2001 with a Boxster S and since then I've owned:
'01 C4S
'04 C4S cab
'06 C2S cab
'07 997 turbo
and now a RS 60 Spyder.
Out of all of them I've like the mid engine layout the most. Don't doubt I'll get another 911 in the future but the Boxster will always be a all time favorite for me. ;)

love the drop top but if i wanted to go back to a coupe it would be a 911 over the Boxster coupe ie-Cayman.

IMHO, if they put a GT3 motor in the Cayman, the question would be "Who needs a 911?" I was a die-hard 911 guy and owned a 911SC in the past, but once the Cayman came out, I had to have one. Gmund #1 had the motor in the middle, and all Porsche prototypes as well as F1 cars have the motor in the middle.

Great lookin' car. Lovely color combo.

I went from 996 to 987S...my thoughts:

- Handling is substantially better in the Boxster. You immediately notice the nimble feel.
- Straight line acceleration doesn't feel as fast. Sometimes I miss this.
- At first not having the seats behind you feels crowded, but this feeling soon passes.

All in all I have no regrets at all and I am loving the droptop.

997S to Cayman S

After the 2006 997S was nearly totalled in an accident I bought 2008 Cayman S. Cayman has better steering feel, more nimble , and sportier - sharper driving experience. I also prefer interior arrangement with no back seat. Slightly reduced braking and acceleration. Punchline -More Fun To Drive!

I must admit I have both...... in one car. Boxster S with the 997S engine. Best of both worlds....

Always drove 911's and tricked out 914's (among other things) growing up. Got the Cayman S to try something new and different. Only 911 I would take over it is the GT3 or 997 Turbo right now.

so poised and balanced.

the RS 60 Spyder is a great deal. Buidling that car from a Boxster S + options would cost much more (and you get a bit of extra power in the RS) and it is gorgeous. Interior smell is worth 1/2 of the cost of the car.

The Boxster is much maligned, heckled by Hyundai of all things, hated by ricers everywhere, often called worse than an S2000. But I would challenge anybody to take a Boxster (986 or 987) for a drive on some lonesome country road and then say its not a great car. It'd never happen.
