Cost of owning a Cayman
Cost of owning a Cayman
I am planning on leasing the car for 3 years. I am considering getting M3 or CS and I know all maintains is "free" on the BMW. I will be driving the car as my everyday and will be putting 12k miles on the car. Just wanted to know how much tires, maintenance, brakes, ect will cost in a year. Thanks!
oil change, ~ 150-200 @ dealer every 15k miles
brake fluid flush, ~ 200 @ dealer every 15-30k / year or two
brake pads(front+rear) ~ 500-600 @ dealer every 20k-30k
brake rotors ~ 800-1000 @ dealer every 30-50k
clutch ~ 2500(?) @ dealer
tires ~ 1200-1800 (dep. on brand)
oil change you can do yourself for about 75 bucks and 30 minutes of your time
brake fluid flush is about 80 bucks or so + initial cost of getting a bleeder
my car has about 15k miles, tracked it once, brakes are far from needing replacement. rear tires needs replacement soon though, front maybe in another 6k miles. because Caymans run 265s in the rear, tires are a lot cheaper than 911s.
your mileage may vary. best of luck
*** oh, forgot to mention, I had an M3 few cars back and it was nice to have free maintenance, but I rarely used it. On a lease car where you are unlikely to be over zealous with maintenance, cost should be low if you do the easy stuff yourself.

I drive mine (987 Boxster) 80 miles a day, 5 days a weeks, mostly interstate . Most expensive part has been tires, I run both summer and winter tires, and rears last between 10-15 depending on my moods. Changed pads at 25k, will be changing pads and rotors here again soon (just over 50k). I am out of warrenty now, so the tires may end up being the cheap part, we will see.
