Thinking about buying a Boxster S

So, I've wanted a porsche since I was a kid. My wife and I have decided that in the next year or so we'd like to pick up a slightly used Boxster S.
I'm probably looking at picking up a '06 model. I'll have about 25K to spend and figure in a years time that may be realistic, especially given the current economy.

Are there any issues with certain years that make one more or less mechanically superior than another?

Thanks,

HB

2005 or newer to get the revised engine 280 hp vs 258 hp. And do not get a tiptronic model if resale is a concern.

Manual for sure.
I've been reading about problems with the Rear Main Seal causing engine failure. How prevalent is this issue and what do I need to watch out for?

Thanks,
-HB

I am in the same boat and currently have a 997s. Its a great car and all, but for all intents and purposes, the BS is a better fit for my needs. I had a Cayman S for a short amount of time and dont have the same excitement when jumping into my 997 as i did with the Cayman S. I am a top down guy and after test driving the boxster many of times, i think its the route i will be headed. Along with the fact, that I am looking at picking up a 05 for 35k or less.

Maybe a non-S but not a S for that price range.

Well I was speaking very generally but, they seem to be going for about $35k now... and drop in price by about $3k a year. So my thinking was that since there are a bunch on the market that in a year and a half that may be a reasonable expectation.
