When to go into neutral

This may sound like a very stupid question... a noob question... but it's just to gather more info. and I have been driving stick for over ten years now.

but, when do you guys go into neutral when you see a red light. do you stay in gear as long as possible? or just release into neutral and apply the brakes?

I never go into neutral while moving, but I will sometimes shift into neutral and release the clutch pedal when stopped at a light to lessen wear on the throwout bearing.

You go into neutral when you come to a stop in the last few feet. And yes, release the pedal when stopped.

Disclosure: my clutches tend to last 100k+ miles.

I like to engine brake and heel/toe when I'm downshifting before a light. It gives me the allusion that I'm at the track when I'm not.

But since my lightweight flywheel tends to rattle a bit when the car is warm and when I'm stopped, I leave the clutch in.
