'04 Boxster Stereo Help

My factory non-Bose stereo is OOC in my '04 Boxster. I've taken it to the local "high end" stereo shop and they're reluctant to install a new stereo - says that the system is priority and installing a non-factory stereo is going to create a lot of problems, i.e. throwing trouble codes.

I've searched the net and it appears that this should be a simple install, though most of the information I've found is too technical for me.

Anyone able to put in simple terms that this is doable, any tricks that we would need to know, and/or any shops near Palmdale/Valencia, CA that could be recommended for a new install?

Thanks in advance.

I'd think an aftermarket wouldn't be too difficult without Bose. What did you find out?

Called an installer a little further away and he said it was a simple installation - does it all the time. Says worse case, they might have to bypass the amp.

I'm confused what was the concern from the first well established guy though. I'll get one installed in two weeks and see.

Just had this installed - http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/cde-103bt/ The installer said that they did have to bypass the amp, but the head unit's built in amp would be comparable. The stock unit sounded poor, this does sound better. The Bluetooth and front accessible USB ports were musts.

There are videos all over the net right now of the first installer to install an IPad into a vehicle - that's the place that I ended up using. Relatively quick and cost $420 - better than replacing with a factory unit.
