wheels replacement

Hi guy's ,
I'm presently driving a 2005 (987) Boxster with 205-55 ZR 17 in the front and 235-50 ZR 17 in the back. A friend of mine sold is 1999 911 (996) and want's to sell me is extra set of wheels .
They are 235-40ZR18 x 8 in the front and 265-40 ZR 18 x 10 in the back.

In my owner manual they mention 2 possibilities for my boxster :
  • 17 inches presently install
  • 18 inches 235-40 ZR18 x 8 in the front and 265-40 ZR18x9 in the back
so the front wheels are the same but what about the difference in the back ,9 inches compare to 10 inches , will they fit ?

One thing you haven't considered at all is the possible difference in offsets, which is what will determine whether they will fit or not...even though both fronts are 8" wide the offsets could be so different that they will not fit...to fit the 10" wheels in the rear you will need 1/2" more offset and then they might not clear inside....good luck

Your stock wheel offsets will be marked on the wheels as et (ex. Et52 for 52mm offset...you might also find them in your owners manual...your friends wheels should be marked either on the inside or outside of the wheel

harryrcb will become famous soon enough
I put 11" wheels from a Carrera 4cs on my 04 S but I needed a 31mm spacer to clear the shock towers. your 05 has wider quarter panel then mine so they should fit fine. like the other guys said its all about the offset and you can get any size spacers you need. I have some extras if you tell me what size you need.. BTW the offset is stamped on the outside of the wheel by the tire valve. I did flare the quarters out later, like I said you shouldnt have to do that.

Hi again guys, thanks for the info .
my 2005 987 with 205-55 ZR 17x 6.5 as an offset of 55mm in the front and 235-50 ZR 17 x 8 with an offset of 40 in the back.

finally my friend is selling me is 17 inches instead (1999 996) with an offset of 55mm in the front and back .
( 205-50ZR17 x 7 front and 255-40 ZR 17 x 9 back).

the front wheels have the same offset but 6.5 compare to 7 and the back ,8 inches compare to 9 inches

so the way I see it, I would need 55mm-40mm = 15mm + 13mm
(1 inch divided by 2 ) for a total of 28 mm spacer to clear the shock towers ... does it make any sense ??
