Question: Boxster Spyder Production Numbers???
.
Still speculation. No official word that it will not be produced for another year.
given that there is a new PTS scheme, it seems like we are prolly going to see another production year. Dammit.............

or should I just get a used 997 gen 1 GT3?????

My previous post was in error. 1953 was the number of copies of 2004 550 Spyders--I've been looking at them.
I recall Porsche saying they'll build all the new Spyders people want and the model will become a new one in their line when they introduced the Boxster Spyder.
I wonder if Porsche is enalrging it's Boxster/Cayman series--finally.
If I were buying new, I'd opt for the CaymanR. I think it will be more exclusive and I prefer hard tops. Nonetheless, as far as predicting which models will be sought after and incease in value in the future, Porsche always makes a better model next year, however, there are some that like the AX handlers such as the RS 2.7's.
Models tend to get bigger and lose some agility as they do. These two seem fine to me and may be collector's items in the future. However, PDK may see more development leaving these in the past.
CaymanR's come in lots of colors including Speed Yellow. I just don't like that long line of lettering along the sides. Call me stodgy; it looks cheap. Nonetheless, I could live with it if only I could afford one . . . but which one has always been the question!

When the 2011 Geneva Motor Show rolls around we'll find out if the new boxster is labeled as 2012 or 2013? Two more month until then.
Stop by my dealer yesterday, they got 1 CR allocation, of course they ordered it in the green, black rims with all the options, MRSP is 86K
. They still have not been given any more Spyder allocations (got 3 originally) even after asking monthly. It doesn't make any sense to me why Porsche is not releasing more allocation than the few that we hear about on these forums. You would think if they intended to continue the production run, they would continue to offer allocations. As far as I'm concerned, the fewer the better

I am beginning to think Porsche has planned a limited run of the Boxster Spyder because of their history for marketing New Technology in & with a new variant THEN bringing that improvement to the basic line or at least making it available as an option.
Right now the Spyder suspension is NOT available as an option on the Boxster series.
Next, Porsche will market the same suspension technology on the CaymanR.
Since, we are shy of a re-do on the Cayman/Boxter series by a couple of years, expect to see that improved suspension on the next Cayman/Boxster--if not standard then available as an option.
These two will become collector's items in a certain sense and be limited; however, the future versions will be even better. That's the way Porsche does things.
Since they've invested heavily in this improved suspension, expect they'll maximize profits via packaging & marketing. Once, the market has absorbed (been saturated) all that are demanded (ordered), Porsche will do as it always has and improve their basic offering which in turn will spark even more demand.
Nevertheless, Porsche has made some changes that resulted in previous cars being highly missed & sought after. Witness the 2.7RS and the increases in value for several other variants that command as much or more than when they were new.
