Just wondering is there a way to ID a Boxter S engine by just looking at it? Any tell tale signs? Pictures?

 

The S has dual tail pipes, red brake calipers and an opening in the center of the front bumper.

 

What if the engine has been changed. How can you tell if its still a "S" engine?

 

You'll have to take the engine cover off to see the difference... even then, the only telltale may be the intake (silver intake runners in a 3.8). If it's a Boxster S with turbo kit, you can tell by twin, big exhaust tips and plumbing underneath.

 

Take it to a dealer to have it inspected if you are planning on buying it. I would guess an independent dealer would be able to tell with a Durametric tool.
