Cylinder sleeve dropped

My 1999 986 (< 55k miles) is in ICU

A cylinder sleeve dropped preventing the crankshaft from turning. Joy.

How common is this issue? How effective is re-lining the cylinders? What's the cost to repair (ballpark)?

If I decide to fix and keep, I'll probably update the RMS + IMS + clutch.

Appreciate any recommendations on those components, too.

Wow have not heard of this happening in a long time! Sorry to hear that. The good news is LNengineering.com is in Moline IL, very close to Chicago, I would read all you can on their website & then call & talk to them about what to do next.

Thanks, Bypro

Spoke to LN this afternoon. (I've auto-x'd with 'em before.) Very knowledgeable team.

Gotta hunker down and make some tough decisions.

Unless you have put a ton of money into making this a Race Car I would use that money for a 2006 Cayman or Boxster ? a good one is only 35K

LN Engineering has some great products & services for this kind of stuff, but it's too bad Porsche didn't address these issues in R&D.

I read about this issue years ago with the 99 and maybe the 2000 & 01 water cooled engines. Something about the engine block castings not done correctly?
