the DMV has thought about it...

"a physical address in California (not a P.O. Box) is required"

many UPS stores use physical address instead of PO Box.

It's doable.

Alternative to do get a illegal smog check that passes everytime. It's a couple hundred bucks so you may be saving money that way.

Most shops will let you slide on the visual inspection but the sniffer is hooked up to a computer in Sacto so they can't fake the results.

So .....

Having a HUGE appreciation for the sensitivity sourounding this topic.. By any chance.... . would you be willing ..... off line ( e.g. send me a private e-mail to mrmuddy1@mac.com) to share with me the name of a place where they are more focused on getting your car to pass than having you come back a number of times ..before it would pass Of course . that would be AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!! ( And, I would PROMISE !!!!! not to share this information with ANYBODY else !!! )

THANKS !!!!!!!!!!

Why would you need to do this??? If the car is tuned and running properly it will pass the sniffer test. Heck, I have had well tuned cars without a cat pass the sniffer back in the day. I know the visual inspection can be a pain but to be honest most smog places do not know Porsche well enough to tell what is modified and what isn't. LOL

Thanks David... I know that there is a group of us out there .. that don't want to take the risk of putting some stuff on .. then flunking the visial . even though the car is running "better"..
In part, what set me off on this track were all of the vendors who who say " it will definately pass the sniffer .. however, it will not pass the visual "

I bet you are correct.. probably, with a little work,, you could select a shop that did not look real sophisticated and probably pass.. Again, it's kind of an expensive gamble if you don't..

btw...I guess my hint that you shouldn't discuss this on a public forum was too subtle for you...just so you know...we have several members here that work for DMV...I'll let you know if they subpoena us for your info
