986 2.7 muffler bypass

Question about 2nd cat muffler bypass system from Schnell.

http://www.vertexauto.com/ShowItem/2...t%20Pipes.aspx

The idea of the system is to bypass the muffler running straight pipe from 2ndary catalytic converter all the way to muffler tip.

This kit costs just under $300. Wonder if a muffler shop can mandrel bend some piping to run straight pipe from 2ndary catalytic converter directly out to the rear bumper exit. A lot of weight can be saved by ditching the entire muffler assembly by simply bolting on a straight pipe. Can this be done?

Will removing or bypassing the muffler affect the performance of car (reduced back pressure)?

These do not bypass or replace the muffler. They bypass the catalytic converter. Contact Vertex for details.

You A) would lose noticeable performance due to excessive loss of back pressure and B) you would likely be extremely unhappy with the "louder than allowed at a race track" noise level.

Additionally you would likely get stopped every day by the police for an illegal exhaust system and never pass California emissions. Secondary cat. by-pass pipes do not eliminate the muffler.
