Engine Tick

Here is a question for the group since I am new to the Porsche world.

I am looking at a Porsche Dealers CPO'd 2008 Cayman S. When I started the engine and let it sit there idling I noticed a ticking noise coming out of the back, kind of a lifter noise. When I asked about it, I was told that all flat 6 have that noise becuase of the oiling system and cold engine. Once it warmed up and took it for a drive it was fine. Is this normal for these engines?

From my experience, yes, this is generally normal.

Yes lifters often make noise like you describe caused by particles in dirty oil that clog the lifters so you should determine if that is the case prior to buying the car.

Neither my 987 nor 997 display this behavior. Doesn't sound right to me...

I had a subtle ticking with Mobil1 0W-40 but it went away when I switched to Royal Purple HPS 10w-40.

Now that I have had the car for a few weeks I determined that when I first looked at it the temperatures were in the 30's. Now the mornings are much warmer and no longer a problem.
