Noise levels in 2006 Cayman - Dynamat/other options

Hey everyone,

I'm looking at buying a 2006 Cayman. I have a question about noise levels. Is the Cayman noise on long drives? Interior noise is the worst thing for long drives. It leads to fatigue and thus mistakes. BMW, Audi and Mercedes are really quiet. Outside of tire noise, is the engine droan in the Cayman horrible? I don't want to be stuck with something really loud.

I'll check out the car on the weekend, so I'll hear a little, but I wanted to get other people's opinions. Especially those that have owned one for a long time.

hi,
I had a 2006 Cayman S, and it never dawned on me that it was ever too loud. I get what you are saying because I had a Ram 1500 5.9 with flowmasters that deafened me on long trips. You set the "quiet" bar high with the German counterparts, but the Cayman will be so much more fun to drive that I don't think you will notice the noise. Go for the Cayman. You will love it.

Not a cayman but the design is similar.

On my now departed 997S I removed the plastic wheel wells and the other plastic pieces under the car and sparingly added dynamat extreme.

In a cayman you may want to add some behind the seat too or on the engine compartment lid.

But what I did on the 997 nicely took the edge off the noise level.

It depends on where you are coming from - it's definitely louder than your typical Mercedes but still really quiet IMO.

I only had noise issues in my CS when my tires were spent (feathered on the inside corners)... now it is quiet(er) than my previous beast (modded '95 Z28)
