Value of a Design Edition Boxster?

So do the limited edition cars like Design Edition, the orange cars, RS60, etc hold that much more value than a regular Boxster? I know they were roughly $10k more new than a regular model. Anyway, I found a white Design Edition Boxster, mileage is only 1600 (this is both good and bad) and price is $44k. The car is listed for sale as a 2008 but arent the DE's 987.2 09 models? Love the way the car looks and would be using it as a seasonal DD so it would get use and miles but being an S model makes it that much better. So is $44k a good price? This is the first DE Boxster I've seen since I started looking 3 months ago.

The value is what you're willing to pay. Do your research nationally and if YOU think it's a deal, buy it. They don't hold their value more than any other Porsche. They start off higher and sell a little higher - if you can find someone willing to pay more. Don't buy it planning to sell it. Buy it planning to drive it. Happy hunting.

I'd never look at a cars as an investment or a "flip", Im more concerned about over paying. Being such a rare car there arent many out there to compare to. Also unsure of what year the car actually is? Any way to tell from the VIN#?

I’m with Steve. All I do is get a “comparison” so I’m in the ballpark and not severely overpaying. If YOU like the car, can afford it and it’s about “normal” in price, then go for it.

I don’t think if you sell it in 3-4 years, it’s going to make that much difference that you paid an extra 3-4K for it if you enjoy the car.

At one time I was looking for a GT3 Orange boxster. I knew full well that it would cost more (though used now) but it’s what I wanted.

It just happened I never found one so on to the 981.

I think the orange/black editions/rs60's do hold their value a little bit more because they are more exclusive and harder to find (I particularly like the orange ones like Mark more because the interior bits are definitely one-off).

But, the question is not value, but whether you enjoy them a little more because they are so special. I track the p*ss out of my cars, so getting a pristine orange or rs60 would just be a minor waste imo. I would be better off with a Spyder or Cayman R for there performance exclusivity.

Lightning, your leisure driving would make you a perfect candidate for these special edition cars.

Btw, it has been a while since we have been replying to your threads here and 986forum...buy a car already!!!!

I have a Design Edition 2 and I love it. I get a lot of compliments on it and it sure does attract a lot of attention where ever I go. A lot of people don't know what it is. While driving I even see people taking pictures while driving.

If it is the Boxster S Design Edition 2. It's a rare example in the US. There are 500 made but only 50 came to North America. Only 32 came to the US.

I've had mine for over 3 years and have never seen another. This model did not receive much advertisement when it was released (late 2008) and did not sell very well. Mainly due to the economy at that time.

All I can say is from my experience in California. It receives a lot of attention wherever I go. Boxsters are a dime a dozen in the Bay Area but I sure receive a lot of good compliments and see people taking pictures of the car. Drives great too.
