986 Poor Radio Reception?

OK...I searched the entire forum for anything on this.

We live in central NJ and really have just Philly area radio stations in our listening area, and in fairness, they are about 65 miles from us.

Now...that said, the radio reception in our 2001 Boxster 'S' is nothing short of, horrible! It is so bad in fact, that we carry CD's with us whenever we go out for an afternoon cruise. I thought the 'Sport Pkg' (which our car has) came with an 'upgraded' sound system too? Whatever that means... I see the antenna is in the windshiled. I even got out the owners manual and used the guided instructions to manually adjust the FM reception, and it is NO better!! Arrggh!!

Anyone have any thoughts, experiences, cures for this apparent issue? I am about ready to toss the stock unit and replace it with something aftermarket, OR figure out an alternative antenna mounted somewhere else????

And for the record, I NEVER replace the stock radio in ANY of my cars. Ever! But this is soooo bad, it has me pulling out what little hair I have left!

HELP!!

Thanks ahead of time...

BB

antenna

Have you ever had the windshield replaced? If so they may not have hooked the antenna back up to the amplifier or went with an aftermarket windshield that doesn't have an antenna built in. Seen it a lot, at lest the not hooked up part. Although the reception in Porsche post ~1990 is sub-par compared to todays cars, the big test is AM stations, if you get none then most likely you have a bad hookup or antenna amplifier.

Also, Ill have to check my note as to what one I used, but I have put in an antenna amplifier from a different make/model and got a noticeable gain in reception for some customers. I'll see what I can find and post back for you.

I found that if my cell phone was too close to the radio, reception was interfered with.
