2009 Boxster Head End upgrade

I am looking to replace the stock radio in my 2009 Boxsterwith the Kenwood Excelon DNN990HD. I am fairly handy and somewhatof a tech kind of guy, and enjoy doing this kind of thing myself. It appears tobe fairly straight forward, but this is my baby and I do not want to mess it up!

1. Isit straight forward, or should I have someone do it?

2. Wherecan I find info on the removal of the radio trim and the unit itself?

3. Inoticed some of the installs had a nice Porsche trim peace, do you know where Ican source one?

4. Wherecan I find the wiring diagram for the existing connection? Do I need any specialwiring harnesses, or is it possible that this is a plug and play connection.

Thanks for your help

A new wrinkle, I went to order the unit from Crutchfield and they said I wont fit, checked Best buy and it indicated a no fit.
I have noticed that several folks on this blog have installed Kenwood units, what am I missing?

What you need to do is get the After Market Radio Installation Kit from Suncoast its a little pricey for $250 but well worth it...That's what I did to install a Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS which is a double DIN unit in my 2010 Boxster....The kit comes with everything you need, including instructions did the job myself...Here are the Pics...Also, if you install a new head unit you will need new front door speakers the ones that Porsche use look like they came from the 60's. I put 6.5" Alpine speakers they fit perfect no modification needed. I also installed 4 3.5" Kickers wired in parallel in the rear storage bin...Got the mounts from Pelican parts had to do some trimming to make the holes big enough for the speakers, but all I can say is WOW...the sound is unbelievable. Going to get a small 300w Alpine amp...just for added sound boost. But installing the rear speakers really drowns out the engine noise.

The are a little blurry...had to use my phone camera...Sorry

Wiring help

Nice job, I was able to order up a trim kit, but didn’t comeacross Suncost till after I placed my ordered.

I also ordered up a wire harness, which I believe covers thebasic connections, but after removing the existing radio (CDR30) in my 2009 Boxster, I’ve noticed that there are several otherconnectors that I could probably take advantage of in my new install (KenwoodDNN990HD) if I could locate the wiring diagram for this unit.

I have attached a photo of the pinning that I have been ableto figure out. The X rep no wire, the ? highlighted in yellow is what I needhelp in identifying.

Thanks for your help.

Hmmm....I used to have it when I got the aftermarket kit...if you contact suncoastparts.com and speak to Ryan Butor, maybe either they can fax you or email the wiring directions or sell you just the wiring harness..that would be the best option.
