My sportscar odd-yssey
My sportscar odd-yssey
From a 2014 R8 V10 Plus to a 2014 991 Turbo S to a 2015 Cayman GTS all within 6 months.
What a strange trip.
After owning many Porsche 911's and a couple of R8 V10 spyders, I "moved up" to a R8 V10 Plus equipped with the new tronic dual clutch transmission. Great car, and Audi has gotten alot of mileage over what is really nearly a decade old chassis. I decided to see if the new 991 Turbo S was indeed the better car and a half hour test drive convinced me that it was time to return to Porsche.
After a couple of months with the turbo, it occured to me that driving this quiet, uber powerful GT with PDK transmission at 4/10ths on NJ roads was just BORING. For a lark, I test drove a Cayman GTS and FELL FOR IT HARD! The sound, the handling, the steering, the mid engine agility and the FUN! And to again have a well-sorted manual transmission - boy did I miss that with the s-tronic and PDK.
So now I happily own a carmine red Cayman GTS with PTV, sport suspension, 6 speed manual, etc. All the traditional fun of a Porsche sportscar for half the price of those two "supercars". We'll see how long it is before my AADD (automobile ADD) sets in, but for now I have a smile back on my face.

Awesome! I keep looking at R8V8s as it was my original choice but everything I read says the cayman is the better driver car. Plus updated interior. And yes when I test drove a 911 I couldn't get over how quiet it was compared to the mid engined porsches.
Awesome! glad you're enjoying the cayman! I'm on a hunt for a cayman S myself. I want one specced almost identically to you but slightly used, ordering one would be slightly out of my comfort zone. Post pictures when you get the chance
