Hi,


I'm looking into changing my tires and wanted to know if i should still stick to Michelin Sport PS2 or go with something else..I have 17" OEM Porsche Twist Wheels.

It came with Yokohama's (don't remember model) - thought they were noisy, so I tried Khumo's trying to save some money (again don't remember model but it was a max performance summer tire) - they were my least favorite, then Goodyear F1 GS-D3's which I really liked, but were discontinued. Finally I switched to Michelin Pilot Super Sports - my favorite of all of them despite the fact that they cost more.

I had 18's on my car, so yours might be different. I have heard good things about the PS2's, so they are probably a good option.

It is hard for someone to say what will work best for you. I live in Atlanta area, so winters aren't too bad and I can run summer tires year round. I also took my car to the track occasionally, so I wanted something that would perform well there without having to switch to R compound tires. So there are lots of factors to consider. Tire Rack does a good job with their reviews, so it is a good source of information. Like many topics, YMMV.

I love the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires on my Cayman. They are a summer tire though so if you live where the temps drop in the winter you'll need winter tires also.

 

I live in the North East and just put Continental DWS on my 03 S. Hoping to avaoid winter tires since I never need to drive in actual snow..just cold. Tire Rack says these should do it.

 

Can't speak as to how these will work out on your Porsche but I have them on my Benz ML350 and on the wifes Benz C300 and love them. Neighbor has them on his BMW X5 and raves about them also. Long lasting, quiet and excellent in the dry, wet and light snow. Haven't had to try them in any more snow than a couple inches. Oh yeah, and I bought them from Tire Rack. I trust those folks.

 

Over the years I've run Pirelli then Michelin PS2 and then back to Pirelli again on my 2002 Boxster.

The Michelin tires delivered a bit longer tread life -- not much and it may be more imagined than real. The Michelin tires were quieter at least towards the end of their life.

Might mention I wanted to try Michelin tires as the word I got from Porsche dealer SM's and tech was Michelin tires were the "best".

The problem is they were also the most expensive. But I got a chance to try some when the price differential was within reason and at least once the Michelin tires were a bit less than Pirelli tires.

But when I went back to Pirelli -- the Michelin tires were on back order as I guess Michelin was switching over to the new tires -- I didn't feel the Pirelli tires were a downgrade.

As an aside, I've run Bridgestone and Continental tires on my 2003 Turbo switching brands because of lack of availability and both brands have delivered excellent service.

However, if you like the Michelin PS2's there's no reason to change to another brand of tire. The only times I've switched brands is because the unavailability of what I had on the car currently or in a case or two when the price difference of the tire I wanted to use or try was within acceptable limits.

Oh, I've only run N-rated tires. I have no experience with any non N-rated tires so if you are looking to move away from N-rated tires I can't offer any advice.
