Returining a 981 Cayman S lease
Returining a 981 Cayman S lease
Im reposting this from the general porsche forum, as it seems more relevant here. Any and all help is really appreciated, thank you!
Hi all, Im about to return a 981 ('14) S lease, basically a GTS before they had that title and Im concerned about what the dealer wants to "get out of me" when I return it.
Its about 500 miles past the agreed amount mileage and I have no problem paying the overage. On the phone though they were talking about "doing whats necessary to make a CPO car", as if, its my responsibility. The car is in excellent condition both interior and exterior, I did oil changes every 5k, but Im not going to put on brand new set of tires and such on a used car. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

What does the lease contract have to say about the return condition of the car? Are you supposed to return it with say tires and brakes renewed?
Call PFS and speak to someone there about what if anything you are responsible for.
Added: Curious I googled "returning a leased Porsche" and got lots of hits. Interesting reading. Seems things often work to the customer's advantage if they are returning a leased car for another leased (or purchased) car. But not always.
PFS should send you something a few months before (but in some cases just a few weeks before) the lease ends which details what is considered normal wear and tear and what is not.
Apparently PFS sends someone, or should send someone but not always -- as I mentioned above about calling PFS you need to add the question what's the process? -- to inspect the car. The dealer does not do this.

Thanks for that! Ill have to double check, if I even have that info!
My concern with calling Porsche Financial Services is that, as usual, they drop me a line of "expect costs" or something like that. Maybe im off on it as Ive never owned a Porsche before.
Do you have any experience with returning a lease to Porsche? Its $44k to but it, but im not in a place to but right now,
Dave

You can call PFS and ask when to expect the lease return package, vehicle check list. You want something in writing -- and one of the links I supplied has a photograph of what the leasee gets (at least this a year or two ago) that details what things are acceptable and what things are required to be taken care of.
I would not ask about any charges. Until you have the details of what is or is not acceptable, and what you are or are not responsible for PFS can't offer you anything but a wild *ss guess as to what if anything you are on the hook for.
Macster,
thanks SO MUCH for your help! Ill look this up and make some phone calls! youve been a great help!
And if you know of someone who wants to buy it for $44k, let me know! Thats an easy way out!

Where purchased/serviced
Any past or current problems
Accident/owner history
And most importantly
All the options
Lots of pictures inside and out.
If it truly has the options of "gts spec," a good color combo, and reasonable milage i think you could easily sell it for 44k if not a little more.

If you do want to sell it for "the easy way out" put a post in the vehicles for sale/classifieds area. Just look through the rules and a few posts to get a feel for what to include. Its free but make sure you include some important details...

This is just a lease return, so Im not trying to make money on it (and plus I dont have a resellers license), so im just asking what the dealer wants for it if I sell/buy now. I would rather a cherry car like this go to someone who can afford it, rather than a dealer to make yet another profit stream. It really is an awesome car!
Here it is, thanks so much for all your suggestions and help!
