2018 Cayman GT4 4.0

Porsche has been testing a new version of the Cayman GT4 & there's been rumour that the car will have a 4.0L engine, maybe with RS badging, who knows?

I'm contemplating a jump over to Cayman mid engine chassis from longstanding 911 model ownership.

Question is for 6Speed members is, should I pick up a low mileage 2016 model now & probably pay more $ than MSRP? or wait around at least another year & maybe not even get an allocation for a car.

Auto journalists & current owners are delighted with the current car, however the values of the 1st generation are likely diminishing if & when a 4.0L car gets released. There are a # of decent 1st gen GT4's out there now.

The first generation GT4's are pretty darn awesome. And the asking prices do seem pretty high. The real questions are for you to answer:
1. Would you rather have a really good car now or a better one later (That is always the case with Porsche)?
2. Do you care if you pay more for a Gen 1 GT4 now vs. waiting for the Gen 2 to be released and paying less for the same car.
3. If you get a car now, will you be able to deal with upgrade/hp envy with the Gen 2 cars if they have a 4.0 engine?

If bang for the buck matters to you, then you should probably wait for the Gen 2 cars to be released and buy a Gen 1 from someone that wants to upgrade.

Decisons........ decisions......... decisions........ (What a tough problem to have!)

Take solace in the fact that if it is in fact a GT4 "RS" with a 4.0L the entire production run will be sold to the 918 program members before any dealer gets an allocation, let alone offers it to someone other than your local dealer's owner who won't pass up the chance to hold it for 6 months and take 100k over list. They will all trade for stupid sums over MSRP and no ordinary buyer will ever have the chance to own one.

...so get the normal one 6 months after the official debut of the RS and the values start to drop on the standard car.

Id love to have one if options such as sunroof, keyless entry, parking sensors and ventilated seats are available.
