Boxster 987 window drop

I am sorry if this has been asked before but I am having trouble with my window drop mechanism on the driver side of my boxster.

I left the car stood while I went on holiday and when I returned teh remote central locking wasn't working (normal for my car if left stood) and the window drop doesn't work correctly.

When the door handle is pulled, the window drops as normal but then raises when the handle is released, even with the door open. This means that on closing the door, the glass clashes with the roof.

Then mechanism works fine when opening and closing the roof and the window one touch open and close work correctly also.

I have tried removing the negative battery terminal for 1 hour to reset and I have gone through the window reset procedure (full wind down and up holding button for 10 seconds). Nothing seems to work that has been suggested in other posts/forums.

Please help!

Briefly, if either the inside or outside handle is pulled *but* not hard enough the door opens the window should drop. This is a sign the door handle switch is working.

If you then release the handle the window should raise. This is a sign the door handle switch *and* the door latch switch are working.

If the door handle is pulled enough to open the door the window should stay down. This is yet another sign the door latch switch is working. It recognizes the door latch is open.

In the case of your car the problem might be with the door latch switch. These as is true with other switches can go bad. (I've been through a number of door handle/latch, window regulator issues with my 2002 and 315K mile Boxster.)

Another source of the problem could be with the door lock which is a rather large and complicated electro-mechanical device. It has in it among other things the electronics that drops the window when the handles are pulled or when the top is unlatched prior to lowering the top or raises the window when the door is closed or the top latched after raising the top.

However, given the window drops right away then goes up right away I would suspect the door latch switch first.

When I had my Boxster in for a similar problem but with some added symptoms the tech checked the switches first but found the problem was with the door lock.

I haven't searched but there might be a DIY write up on how to remove the interior door hardware and the door panel and then replace the switch.

The door has an airbag in it so you need to following directions in the owners manual disconnect the battery first and wait some time to let any residual electricity bleed away to avoid an accidental air bag deployment.

Or if you have a shop you use for servicing/repairs now's the time.

Just to add: I say door handle switch and door latch switch as if they are two different switches. But the switches might reside in the door lock assembly/controller enclosure.
