2006 - 2010 Cayman S
2006 - 2010 Cayman S
My wife has been asking if i would be ok getting an older cayman S or cayman.
In process of finding a car or truck for one kid and wife started asking what if we get cayman that she can drive.
Sooooo,
1. can anyone point to common problems with these years of the car?
2. Things to look for, etc?
3. Are these cars hard to work on as DIY?
Thanks, appreciate the help

Nothing really wrong with these cars, the IMS/RMS was fixed by the time the Cayman was released. Just make sure the car had the maintenance on time and oil changes have been done. The water pump needs to be replaced every 40k miles and if it has not been replaced then expect to have that done. Buy the newest car you can afford within a mileage range you feel comfortable with. The tip is garbage so get the PDK is you are into a automatic and there is a boat load of options that Porsche has for these cars. I would make sure you get the Sport Chrono and not buy a car without it. S has more hp but the base car is no slouch. I have no idea about the DIY as I always use the dealer for all my cars for most but the basic stuff(wiper blades/battery) If you can make sure you get the two keys, books and records along with the window sticker so you know what options the car came with and if you are lucky the seller will have a COA.
...thats some awesome info. Really appreciate it. Not sure still if we will do it (now its between the cayman S and a truck - RAM 1500 Lone Star), but if we do, I have better idea on things to look out for for the PPI. Thanks again.
starting in 2009 the cayman engine was materially different than those preceeding it. it was improved, reliability-wise and performance-wise in a number of significant ways. there is really no comparison and their prices on the used market reflect that.
