Rear main seal problem with 2001 Boxster S

2 weeks ago I go to my dealer to get the oil changed in my '01 Boxster S (53k miles). They call me and tell me that the infamous RMS is leaking and needs to be fixed. 10 days and $2500 later I get the car back. Today my girl starts it up and notices there is ZERO oil in the car. Had to get it towed to dealer again . I have read HORROR stories about this recurring problem - is there any hope for this car?

TIA

get it done at a reputable dealer. the first job was done incorrectly. good thing you've got a 2 yr warranty against RMS now. 2500 seems extremely costly if all you got was a rms job

I had a new 99 boxster

The seals broke every 6 months for a couple of years.
Loved the car, but that was unacceptable....always had seal breakage oil spots in garage. Finally took to a different dealer, had a meeting with Porsche about this annoyance, they had a 24 year Porsche mechanic pulled out the whole oil pump system and redid it all 3k under warranty and to my amazement it never ever leaked again..That was amazing after 3 years of constant oil leaks, it spolied how I felt about the car though. I would think the 2001 S Boxster wouldnt have this same problem. I wouldnt pay a dime for them to fix your seals. Porsche knows about this problem with the Boxster (earlier year models) for a long time.. goodluck
