Spec of a CaymanS

Quick question: If one was going to buy a Cayman and had the intention of having the engine swap done within a year or so, how should the Cayman be optioned? Apart from having a manual, what other options are there or shouldn't there be? It would seem as though PASM is not a good idea as the KW suspension does not have the electronic adjustability. Anything else that makes the conversion easier/harder?
Also, with the $25k does FVD "swap" out the Cayman engine or does the owner get the old engine back to sell or do whatever?

If I were you, I'd call them directly. These are all good questions.

I sold my 3.2L after it was pulled. You own the engine, not your "swapper". I've found that most of these shops are pretty reasonable folks. Just pick up the horn, talk to them. Then, go visit them. I didn't want to have work done on my car by a guy working out of his garage. Make sure they've been around and are a reputable shop. In the end, you'll be glad you did your homework.

Get the Cayman S and sell your 3.4 engine to a 3.2 Boxter owner. You will also get the six speed with the S. I have been told that there a lot of other things different between the S and the non S.

Hah, forgot they even offered the non S variant. I had every intention of getting the S from the start, good eye! BTW, what does a very low miles 3.4l engine go for?

Dave, your probably right. Will call and see what they say.

The cost of a slightly used 3.4L vs a 3.8L might be considerably close, making it a dumb move to move from 3.2 to 3.4. I'd imagine you'd only "save" a few grand as most of the cost is probably tied up in labor.

Anyone have a bead on what a 3.8 crate goes for?

I think that you are looking at $10k plus a $5k core charge. I went through this a few months ago. Although I squeeked under the wire with a $3k core charge, I think they've since raised it.

Ask Evan at FVD. I think he's gotten a few of them in the last few months. He should be able to give you a better idea.
