2001 Boxster S: Opinions needed

What do you guys/gals think about this car? What do you think it's worth?

2001 Boxster S (1 owner)
Lapis blue
Gray full leather interior
6 speed
38K mi
Hard Top
Sports Touring Package
Special Chassis Rgidly Tuned (what's this?)
Comfort Leather
Heated Seats
Memory Seat (driver only I think)
Litronic Headlights with washers
18" Turbo look wheels
PSM
Hi-Fi Sound with 6 CD changer
Brushed Stainless Steel interior design package
Porsche car cover
Porsche hard top cover
Performance hard top hoist
Asking price $28K

Condition: Car ran strong, engine quite, but clutch appears to be on its last leg (very hard). Rear tires have about another 1K-2K mi. Interior is a bit dirty other wise it's good condition. Exterior is good condition with a few deep scratches on the mirror, door, bumpers, and rear spoiler.

Appreciate your inputs and comments.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like it has been run hard for its 38k miles. I'd do a thorough checkup before signing on to that one.

There is a adjustment spring for the clutch that may need replaced. It is easy to confuse it for a bad clutch. Here is a link that talks about it below. Not a bad deal all in all I would throw 25 at it and see if it sticks. With 500-1000 bucks you can have it detailed out and all the scratches fixed. PPI test should also be done and you can call Porsche NA and find the original dealer and get the service records from them. Carfax would also be a must for me.

Yes, I'd definitely do a PPI first if I decide this is the one. I'm not sure if this car has been run hard but it does look like the owner doesn't take good care of it -- cosmetically.

JP, thanks for the link to the clutch spring issue. I didn't know about that. Reading that makes me think the spring maybe the issue as the clutch doesn't slip and seems to have a strong grip once letting go of the pedal. I contacted the dealer where the car was originally purchased but they won't release the service records to me (privacy protection?). This won't be an issue as the seller has agreed to obtain it for me.

Anyway, I'll sit on it for another few days and see where I'll go with this one. Maybe something else would come up.

Thanks for the input!

IMO, $28K is very high. I would say $23-$24K max. $28K would be for a 25K mile car in perfect shape and this car has cosmetic and mechanical issues.

24K was what I was thinking as well.

The price also depends on where the car is located. Here is the Seattle area, everything always costs more than in other parts of the country. Whether it's cars, boats, trailers, houses, whatever.

I would look at other Boxsters for sale in your area and get a feel of what they are going for. From that, and a PPI, you should be able to determine what the car is worth.

Just my $.02
