As far as driving over the boarder, you need the RIV paperwork faxed to the border crossing you will go thru, 3 days prior. It's not a big deal.

 

I got a quote for the RIV/Transport Canada required rear bumper mod for a 2008 997 wide body (C4, C4S, Turbo or GT3RS). Barrier Porsche in Seattle wants US$660 for parts and labor + taxes.

 

What about daytime running lights? Are they standard on Porsche?

 

DRL's are not standard on a 2008MY US spec car. For those cars equipped with PCM and Sport Chrono it's a simple setting change on the PCM, totally DIY. For non-PCM equipped cars its an hour's labor at the dealer, (change is made via the dealer's computer) no parts required. This applies to both DRL's and digital imperial (MPH to KPH and F to C etc) to metric display updates.

Hi, fellow P-daddies, just want to keep you guys posted on my situation. I found another Orange RS and will be making a road trip down to Penn State for a look.

As for the importing, I found an importer that charges a nominal fee along with transport (enclosed) of the car up to my garage. The Importer will also deal with all paperwork with customs/riv/ up to the Form 2 which is before me bring my car to CT. They will continue to provide guidance though. Seems like a good service from a Canadian business.

crx168, make sure you get the quote in writing. Make sure its an inclusive list with ALL the fees listed. I haven't heard of that importing company (not necessarily a bad thing), however, a lot of companies add extra fees after importation. Have them get a quote for any required modifications/duty/takes/fees/transport charges/insurance/etc. before you sign anything. Dont let them rip you off.

and lots and lots of communications to fill me in the loop. They are located in Barrie and did all my customs/riv work
for me so I didn't have to run around doing all the work. Great value for their $585 + gst service charge.

Great summary propr`one! One small correction though....you need to fax the title to the US customs office at your border crossing, not the Canadian.
