I have about 27,000 miles and my front pads are pretty low, so I'm going to have them changed. I'm going to my local indy. The dealer said the rotors always need replacing. The indy said a lot of european cars do need them each time.

Is this true?

The dealers will not get off that stance either. This is normal for them and they say you can't turn the rotors either. My indy shop says thats not true and that you can at least turn most of them at least once. He has done it. BMW takes the same stance and he just turned some rotors for a friends M3 and charged him like $300 for a set of pads for all four plus the turn. BMW wanted near $2400 for the brakes because they replace all rotors and pads. That's just crazy.

Thanks Mudman Good to hear real reports.

The stealership wants a change in the rotors most of the time. BMW and Mercedes is horrible about that rule when they do brakes. No exception from them. They are not even allowed to suggest turning them. At least at my dealership.

I was told Porsche was the same but haven't needed anything yet as I have hardly any miles on the 997TT.

Your welcome, I have changed the fronts twice and looked closely at the rotors, they had very little wear and the pads were really shot at 38K.

The rear pads i have changed once and the they will be due at about 70K, I will do the rotors then.

However I have Hawk dustless on the front and may do the rear prematurely as I love the lack of dust on the fronts

I will have to try the hawks on the TT if I can get them. My wheels are dirty the moment I get them cleaned it seems. Still not worth 8K to get ceramics just to get rid of dust. Are the hawks really the dust free? I have heard about them but never pulled the trigger. Where do you get them from? Thank you in advance for any info.

Put it this way, the front of my car is now shown up by the rear. Prior to that I would have said that I dont suffer dust on the rears at all
