How hard and what cost for spring instal

I went out and bought a set of Champian Motor springs. Im told they are made by H&R and they will fit the 2008 Cayenne s.

Is it hard to instal yourself?
If so what is the time a shop should charge you for a instal?

Tia

Based on your question, I assume you've never installed coil springs before. Installing coils springs can be dangerous to one's health if done incorrectly. Since you are in the Big D area, check out RUF Auto Centre in Dallas or any full service repair facility. Heck, your local Porsche dealer could install them as well.

Good luck.

Local dealer wants $1000 to instal.
My budy has done springs on 5 cars and is confident he can do it. I just wanted to see if it was possable for a non shop to do the work. He would do it for $300.

thanks

I want to say about a 5 to 6 hour job. But as always, each install varies dependent on what you run into (rust, stripped bolts, etc). The job is straightforward enough, but remember the Cayenne is super heavy. So definately use some safety stands under it when doing it with your freind. These trucks are not forgiving when things fall, even if it is jsut the spring (its not light). Hope this helps.

If you do decide to go that route, please post pics and thoughts on the work involved.
Thanks!

If he can compress the coils then your set at $300. Big Job, took all day.

Would installing coilovers mean removing the assembly as shown in the picture and just installing the new coilover assembly?

Usually, installing new coilovers does indeed mean that. But many times, they will not include the factory hardware such as rubbers and perch mounts. So you end up decompressing stock assembly anyway. The rears are not an assembly, spring is seperate from shock. Hope this helps.

Do you mean the stock unit, because the KW unit IS one piece.

Socal,

Yes, I am talkng about the stock unit. I am almost certain they are not assembled from my memory (3 installs 3 or so years back). All the new cars I see are the Air Ride equipped Cayennes. Please let us know how you make out.

In my experience, the job is the same. You have to remove what is there in order to install the new set up. If you get coilovers that are already assembled, you still have to remove the existing set up. You just don't have to press on the new springs on the OEM shocks.
