Thinking about Cayenne Purchase
Thinking about Cayenne Purchase
Hey guys, I currently own a 2002 996 and was thinking about getting my wife the Cayenne...Any feedbacks? What years/problems should I look out for?
If you get the new one, you won't have to worry about anything.
If you do a search, most ppl get 5 - 7% off MSRP in US... Considering current economy, you shouldn't have any problem getting a deal.
Good luck.

Even with a new one, problems occur with any manufacturer.....I know that the factory warranty will take care of it, its' just the time hassle...example, I used to have a Rnage Rover and I seemed to have it more at the dealership then driving it. FYI, it did not even have 10,000 miles
Generally try to avoid the alpha and beta models. 2005 and up are more reliable and have factory warranty remaining to workout any issues. Good luck.

I was in the same dilemma. But ultimately bought a '04 Cayenne Turbo a few weeks ago. Couldn't be any happier.., and still chose one regardless of all the talk about avoiding the year. Look at an '04 if its a good price, take the VIN number to a Porsche dealer, see what kind of maintenance was performed. Thats what I did and couldn't be any happier w/ the car and value for my money.
It really is hit or miss sometimes. I had a 1999 996 Carrera and had zero trouble with it in 60K+ miles. But as time passed so many people said that the 99, as the first year, was no good.
Have a 05 cayenne s, not much of problem, have 31K mile and still loving it. But maintainence will be high when warranty expires, so plan to trade in for a new GTS or Turbo before warranty expires. If you can handle a new one, I rather get a new one with 7-10% discount than getting a 04/05 that warranty is almost expires.
The 08 body looks more updated as well. The old body looks a little dated

SoCal-
I just picked up an '02 CTT for my sweetie and we couldn't be happier. She totally digs on the turbo (she was wanting an S model but I "managed" to talk her into looking at TT's..after 1 test drive she was like "OMG we have to get the TT".. lol)
After shopping around it seemed the '04 with low mileage was the best bang for the buck, we got it for $48,500 with 17k miles on it. Plus got the full car history since it was bought new and serviced at The Auto Gallery in Woodland Hills.
Whatever you do end up with, be sure to get an extended warranty even if there is some of the factory warranty remaining (assuming you intend to keep it for awhile).
I went with EasyCare / "Total Care" from Woodland Hills Porsche, $2850 for 6yr/60k miles (from date of waranty purchase), even covers tire and rim damage. Best deal I found anywhere and the coverage is very very good. Regardless of where you buy the CTT you can only get TotalCare warranty from a few California pcar dealers, and they all charge different prices (Russnack wanted over $4k for the same exact policy!!). For example, Beverly Hills Porsche uses a different policy company and wanted over $5k for theirs.
If you need more info on the warranty pm me. Good luck on the hunt!
