Seperate ECU for flashing

hey, i was thinking i could protect my warranty if i bought a seperate ECU for my cayenne turbo s and had that flashed with updated aftermarket engine software. if and when i had a warranty issue, i'd just unplug one and plug in the original factory ecu.

has anyone tried this or heard of any drawbacks?

eBay has a listing for (3) cayenne ecu's for $99 ('03-'06 models) each.

I think you'll need to bring in the ECU and your car to the dealer to have it initialized.

There are some flash kits that let you roll back to the original firmware via PC- did you check with Softronic?

Yeah, the ECU has specific coding to work with the car/engine. You cant switch them out from one car to another unfortunately, and the dealer would need to set it up for you. So whatever dealer you dont use for service, bring the ECU to them.

thanx for the insight.

someone told me that the factory can tell if the ecu has been flashed, even if you switch it back to stock (like the giac switcher). someone also told me the ecu keeps dates and miles which if i switched there'd be a gap. both sources were not "dealer savey" so who knows.

i want the extra hp from the software but i don't want to void or jeopardize my warranty. i think i'm between a rock and a hard spot?

I think it depends on who's flash you use. The only problem with two DME's is they will not be in sync with the rest of the control units such as the cluster. This is also an obvious change.

i'm finding out that there just isn't an easy way to "fool" the factory/dealership. i think i'll just stay with the stock ecu and do exhaust and other minor upgrades.

thanx for the info.
