Mercedes owner considering a change...
Hi all,
First post here so be gentle.
I'm currently considering going from a G500 to a Cayenne - either the S or Turbo. I'm just fed up with MB's customer service as of late and miss having a quick daily driver. I'm considering the Cayenne as a compromise between practicality and speed; will I get that with just an S or will I have to step up to a Turbo? Moreover, how does the handling compare between the two? And finally, are there certain years I should avoid? - I have a budget to work with and most likely won't be purchasing a new Turbo.
Thanks!

both have the same handling, unless you find a model with pdcc, which handles better. If money is not an issue, go with the Turbo, if you get an S, you'll regret it, just like me. Since you said budget is an issue, which i just realized, then get an S.
Well, I wouldn't purchase anything *new* but will most likely try to find a low-mileage, well-maintained example. With that said, a pre-owned Turbo is within reach unless there are certain years to avoid.
How about a GTS? Right in the middle between the S and the Turbo.... Great ride, style and power. Welcome to Porsche! You gonna love it over here.... I would sell you mine for 86K with my custom 23's.... I have my eye on another 997 Turbo again

I'm not sure about that (see first sentence). With the air suspension the ride is significantly different from an S to a turbo (unless the thread author meant Turbo S). The turbo ride and controllable suspension settings make a big difference if you ask me.
Well considering you are not going to buy a new vehicle, you need to make a decision - Certified Pre-Owned or not. A CPO warranty can be a factor in your decision. Go to the Porsche.com website and do a search for CPO Cayennes in the country.
If you are a risk taker, and you want power and decent handling, there is a used 2004 RUF Dakara (RUF conversion of a Cayenne turbo) with 70K miles for around $40k at RUF Auto Centre.
Once you figure out what you can afford, or want to spend, and what risk (warranty or no warranty) you want to take, then start shopping!
Do take some test drives to compare the Cayenne S to the Cayenne turbo. Since you've been driving a G500 and not a G55, the Cayenne S may be just right for you.
Remember, the 955 Cayenne turbo with the air suspension will handle better than a steel spring suspension 955 Cayenne S. Test drive!!!

I have air suspension on the S and I find it bounce up and down quite a bit compare to the steel suspension. Try both and see what you like.
Either the S or Turbo will be a lot faster than you G500.
