Unhappy Cayenne Pricing

Let me preface this with I'm not in same financial class as most of you I see posting about ordering new Cayenne TT's so take it easy on me I'm currently an anesthesia resident and this will be our 3rd vehicle - used mostly for road trips and when we need the space for intown stuff.

Was all set to buy a Cayenne today but thought I'd swing by the VW dealership "just to make sure". Started with the V6 and immediately turned around after a block on the test drive saying no thank you. Drove the V8; nicer than I expected. Ample power, nice feel, nothing to complain about. Went to "look" at the numbers for this car and he said invoice minus $1500 and it's yours. Required ZERO bargaining! Salesman informed me that there was $2000 mfr to dealer cash because the MY05's are about a month away without any difference between the MY's. So for a fully loaded, I mean fully loaded, Touareg V8 - $47K +TTL

Then went back to my beloved Porsche dealer. Drove the V6 - better than the VW V6 and I could live with it. Drove the Cayenne S - NICE!! Priced out the Cayennes and would be looking at a MSRP of $55K for the V6 or $68K for the V8 how I want them. He said I could get about $2K off the V6 or $7K off the V8. Really got me thinking about that VW V8. I showed him the quote from VW and he thought awhile then said quite candidly that he'd probably go for the VW V8 over the Cayenne V6 if that was the price range that I'm looking at. I kept asking him what am I missing? There's got to be something that can account for this price difference other than the badge. I agree that the drive is better in the Porsche, feels put together more snug if that makes sense.

But getting a V8 AND saving ~$6K is making it VERY difficult to get the Porsche. I thought I would NEVER say that too!

I'm going to think about it over the weekend. Has anybody else noticed this????

Porsche engine vs VW engine.
Porsche suspension vs VW suspension.
Porsche name vs VW name.

If you're looking for value, NEVER buy a Porsche!!

I've been a Porsche enthusiast for over 20 yrs. and must admit when I drove the Touareg V8 I was VERY impressed with the appointments including the standard Air Suspension, overall performance and handling. Can't say anything bad about it.
