05 Cayenne V6 Brake Service

I have an '05 Cayenne V6 with 40K miles. I have replaced front and rear rotor, pads, and sensors at 20K. Every dealer seems to have the same story - you cannot replace pads without rotors on a Cayenne or you will have major issues.

Is this true or is it just collusion between the dealerships to get extra $$$?

What are the prices you have paid for the service?

Any recommendations in the NYC area?

Depends on your driving style, but you should/could get 2 pads worth out of a rotor. Buy the parts and do it yourself, one of the easiest brake jobs around. Use Suncoast Porsche, great prices and service.

Dang, going through pads & rotors in 20 K. I'd recommend getting out of the city some.

Ok, they are easy to do if your not affraid to get your hands dirty. The reason the dealer replaces the rotors is because of all the pulsation complaints they get half way through the second set of pads. Usually by the time the pads are gone, the rotor is close to min. spec and Porsche says not to cut them. They could cut them, but when there are already pulsation problems, making them thinner means a good chance of a come back for the dealer and another trip back for the owner. Dealers are not trying to rip you off. Maybe some, but not mine.
