X5 (no not wrong forum haha)
BMW service
Chances are that you had bad luck with your BMW dealer, I have owned BMW's for the last 15 years and service has always been stellar in the three different dealers I have purchased from. Two in NJ and one in Austin, TX being this last one, the one that has the best customer service of the three.
Agreed. I am a bigger fan of the Cayenne line up, but for those prices... no brainer.
my wife has been driving bmw's for 18 years with great success. I bought her a cayenne s this last time because i am a huge porsche fan ( i have a 2007 911 c4 cab). My respnse is porsche is better but x5 is still a great car and if money matters ( and it usually does) go with the x5 you will not be disapointed.
I have to vote for the Porsche
I have both, and used to race BMW's (M3) so I'm a big BMW fan. Did all the work myself, very easy to work on, especially compared to the Porsche. I have a 4.6is X5 and I bought my wife the Cayenne TT. The 4.6 jumps off the line with brute force, making the Porsche feel slow and clumsy - until the boost kicks in. That's when my wife drops me, and she cherishes every moment of it.
The BMW interior is not nearly as nice or comfortable, but typical esoteric BMW style. The sound on the X5 stock is much meatier, my friends prefer the sound and drivability of the X5 hands down, hey, it's a BMW and is a great driver's car. It feels more like my M3 did which was barely streetable after all the mods, it handles like a car, the Porsche is awesome but I'd be scared to drive that thing on the track, just feels clumsy and sloppy by comparison, but I still absolutely love the car!
If you like to work on your own cars, the Porsche is lame. $2500 for the service manuals, a Bentley for most BMW's can be picked up for $60. I had to change the ignition coils on the Porsche and it was a tight squeeze to remove a couple of them to say the least. Brake changes are about the same on them, Porsche's slightly easier because of the caliper design.
If I was just picking a car for it's overall vibe having owned both for a couple years, I'd pick the CTT everytime because turbo's are about the only stupid legal fun we can still have!

I wouldn't buy the X5, I think the VW Touareg is a nicer vehicle then the BMW. The CS, CGTS, CTT are the most sporty SUV you can get. They are great offroad, in the snow, and even on the Race Track.
If you want the Porsche, get it, chances are you will regret the decision of not getting it a year (or less) after you have it.

I agree that X5 nice, but nice in a comparison to the ML benz... but 955 turbo or GTS, or even S... no compare
Also if you don't have the $$$ to pay cash for the car upfront these days... even if your financing the vehicle....probably would get a cheaper vehicle like a used 04 cayenne for under 30k all day! That will help the wallet and save the rest of your money for retirement!
