Help needed please! Looking to buy a 2006 Cayenne...issues?
Dear 6Speeders,
I am looking for a 2005 or 2006 Cayenne S or possibly a Cayenne Turbo (both with sub 30,000 miles) and was hoping for some advice.
I bought a 2001 996TT a few years ago and had to deal with quite a number of problems (2nd gear pop out ($12k), rear hydraulic lift ($600), ignition ($600), pressure plate (forgot amount)) and the list goes on. I'm not adverse to spending money on the car but there reaches a point where such problems are simply an inconvenience that I do not want to have to worry about. A few months ago I picked up a 430 spider and have been delighted with the car's trouble free driving....a nice change from the TT.
Anyway, back to the main issue. Can any of you please share your experiences with the 2005 or 2006 Cayenne S and/or Turbo? What issues are common with these SUVs and what things should I look for/worry about? Is the S or Turbo more prom to problems? How reliable is this SUV? Any options particularly worth looking for?
Any and all feedback would be very much appreciated!
Thank you and best regards,
Michael

Value. That's it, pure and simple!
For less than $40K, I was able to get a 2006 CPO Cayenne S.
Note: CPO! Good till 2011, Sept....
The Cayenne S is not a Sports Car. It's one hell of a SUV with a Sports Car feel!
Stainless Steel Exhaust, Leather, Power Seats, Moon Roof, BOSE Stereo, NAV ( works well ), heated seats & wheel ( useful on the SKI Hill ), PASM, Bi-Xenon Lights, 340hp....
There is a great deal of value for the market price and now, the prices are getting better. Go to a busy market, say LA for my example, and look around, there are plenty to be had, Californian Driven ( no salt, sand, iced windshields, etc)
At Auction these units go for 28-30, the dealers then flip them to you with a CPO ( depending on mileage and condition) for about 15 - 20% mark up.
I left Dodge behind, done with that pathetic quality, and have found Porsche to be everything I had imagined and more!
2006 is the last of the 1st Generation, everything that should have been fixed in previous releases was done...well almost!
In my mind anything older would have to have some kind of Option PKG that was irresistible.
I recommend 2006. Make sure you get the Air Ride and the Cayenne S. Tiptronic is fun and makes life interesting.
Good Luck!

Having driven most of the vehicles Porsche manufactured I'd have to say that stepping in from a 996TT you're not going be be happy unless you keep that Turbo on tap. The weight on the Cayenne is now around 6K which will requires more Power both in get-up and braking. I do recommend if the pocket book will allow the Cayenne Turbo S which is only avail on the 2006 unless you are fortunate to find a previous year with the $19,000 E81 Power Pack which is sometimes refered to as the Original Turbo S..... From the 420-HP your TT is putting out the CTTS will put you in good with 520 so you'll feel right at home without feeling short-changed. Just my .02
Good Luck in your quest, will you be keeping the 996TT???
