Thinking of painting/vinyl my cayenne matte black. What do you guys suggest?
I think you are both wrong. b/c if you paint your "red" car "black" you have to change what it says for your registration. its like when the cop runs your plate it will show for example "porsche cayenne turbo red 09" and when your are driving a black car its going to be a red flag! most likely the cop will think the car is stolen.

Go find the answer and get back to us. Until then do not accuse anyone of being wrong until you actually know for sure.

for instance, I have driven for the past 2 years with no front or rear license plate and have never been pulled over or received any ticket for that matter.
Using YOUR type of reasoning MY experience would lead one to believe it is fine to have no plates on ones car.
In fact this is exactly the other way around!
I have no idea if I am right or not, and personally I don't care. but I think YOUR reasoning in no way proves that there is not a measure to be taken when changing the color of your car.
I think its also funny how you had to complain on this thread, and you couldn't stop there! You had to send me a PM whining about how I said you were wrong!
YOUR reasoning from the above quote, in no way explains logically, that there is no obligation for one to inform some form of government agency.

First of all, if you really dont care then why post the question and then cause touble about it? Kind of immature if you ask me and it doesnt relate to the threads subject at all. And calling someone out and telling them point blank they are wrong is pretty ridiculous if you really dont know the answer and dont really care. I mean really why ask the questions at all???
Here is all the info you need to educate yourself... if thats possible.

No where is the registration handbook does it say anything about the color of the vehicle being needed for registration. And to verify that I went and looked at my registration card (I just moved from Santa Barbara to Texas so I still have the card). It does not specify or have an area anywhere on the card stating the vehicle's color. Neither does Texas for that matter. I went through the New Dealer section in the handbook provided by the DMV and the color is not required when processing the vehicles registration paperwork in California.
So there you go. I guess the other gentleman and myself were not wrong after all. It makes sense if you think about it. Why would you have to re register the vehicle if you have it repainted... even if its only a few shades off??? And what color would it be for a business that has their vehicle logos all over it (if wrapped in multi-color vinyl)? I see your reasoning but dont see why you asked if you really dont care...
