How do dealers know what will fit?

I just got a nice set of winter tires for my 997TT mounted on TRMotorsport F2 forged rims. The front rims are 18x8, with 40 mm offset. I wonder why can't I use the same rims to mount 255/55R18 winter tires for my GTS? Porsche manual suggests rims with 57 mm offset -- but using the same size rims with 40 mm offset is the same as using OEM rims with 17 mm spacers. I do not see anything wrong about it. Why TireRack does not recommend F2 for Cayennes?

Even more strange, when I am looking for the 18" winter set for GTS, TireRack web suggests 3 types of rims. If I switch to CT, it also offers the fourth option -- Rial Porto, which looks like as doctor ordered for the GTS. How come a wheel suitable for CT would not fit GTS with regular brakes?

None of the reputable internet dealers offer a possibility to pick rims by size. Do they know something we don't?

My Turbo S had offsets of 50 (front) and 45 (rear) while my TT has completely different offsets. Also, while the rear tire widths are close, the circumferences of the tires are very different. Finally, 911 wheels may not be designed for the weight of a Cayenne. Staggered widths will cause problems as mentioned above. So there are lots of issues.

Here are a couple of quick photos of my Cayenne wheels next to my TT wheels to show you the differences.

thanks for the post with pics

they will fit, but i am not sure if they're the best "fit" for your cayenne. the reason being, wheel have a certain load rating to them. the 911's load rating is much less than that of a cayenne's. check with a more reputable source before you do this.
