Buying and 04 Cayenne Turbo - what to look out for

Hey all,

I am looking at a 04 Cayenne Turbo w/ 32K miles on it. One owner. Great shape. What mechanical issues should I look for? I am looking at a 3yr warranty to cover everything = $3k. Not sure if it is worth it or not.

Any help is appreciated.

Adam

Look out for an '05 I'm currently shopping for one as well, and the mechanics at the local dealership have said the '04s are constantly in the shop for things like hoses, solenoids, etc. Not usually cheap things. They were fairly serious about it.

That said, I know plenty of people with 04s that have been fairly lucky. I'm still tempted to pull the trigger on an '04 in spite of advice I have received to the contrary, just due to the $ savings. I know the price difference between '04 and '05 is significant, so it might be worth the savings, but consider also that it's there for a reason.

Can your local dealer do a PPI?

There is on common failure on the 04's. Basically a coolant line failure that a dealer will charge you for a full engine R&R ($8,000). I have seen stories of owners who have done it themselves and said its not that hard (no engine removal needed). I called my local tuner and he just did one WITH a water pump for $2500. Read this link: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...howtopic=24864

Also - I have read lots of posts on electric issues but none of them crippling like the 03-05 Mercedes had. BTW - I am also looking to trade up my Cs for a Ctt and also have looked at a few 04s.

I would recommend a 05 too. But if you find a late model 04, then most of the problems may have been addressed. Say a May-July 04 build. I do think that 05 started early in 04 too. If you can get a CPO 04, even better.

I have a 05 and it has been great so far!

Check both the keys work and that the headlights don't registed PCM errors when you drive with them on. I missed both on the MY05 I just bought and its costing me quite a lot to fix. Porsche also missed both as I paid them approx 350 GBP to inspect - good of them...
