Mercedes Gives Cayenne Run For Money
Mercedes Gives Cayenne Run For Money
X-post from the 996TT forum.
OMG, has anyone else heard about this???
They put the supercharged AMG 55 engine in the G55 for 2005!!!
At 469HP, it now beats the Cayenne TT for the most powerful SUV in production!
True, it's still no Porsche, but dayaaaam....0-60 in 5,5 sec. This is seriously gonne give Porsche some competiton in the high end SUV market!
MSRP $100K

I never said the G55 was faster, just most powerful. This claim is made on the Mercedes website. They don't consider the powerkit on the Porsche simply because it's an option. They are only considering "base model" to "base model".
Well no matter what kind of engine they put in the G class, it will not have high speed stability the cayenne posses. I have tried top-speed on the G 500, cayenne S and turbo, and X5 3.0 and 4.4 and I am here to announce that the Cayenne has the best stability at high speed with the X5 trailing behind. Maybe they changed the suspension settings on the G class, but being so tall and having such poor aerodynamic, I am so sure that the G class will notn handle well at such high speed. Furthermore, the height of the G class makes it unable to attack corners at high speeds. Therefore, unless they make a wide body G class, for now, probably only the FX (haven't driven one, just guessed) or X5 can rival the Cayenne when it comes to high speed driving and cornering. After all, its not a Porsche
