manual or automatic?

i have watched with interest threads about "autos v manuals"
coming from a country where the vast majority of all cars are manual, we are now leaning towards auto box's, because of the extra longevity/power these box's can take.
powerfull engines just shread clutches, and i find that unless you dial on big RPM, an auto will win at the traffic lights.
there is alkso the argument that an auto box is in the right gear at the right time always, and with tiptronic (et al) you can use as a semi manual box.

how do manuals go down in the country that gave us the auto box?

with all the traffic here in london, i much prefer my auto's, for track driving or country lanes a manual can be fun....what is your take on it?

from your location info, I take it you live in London, England. I've been there couple times and there is a HUGE traffic jam most of the time and there is no reason for you to go with a manual transmission. It's harder to use, more expensive to maintain and higher fuel consumption if you're not driving on highway... Also, Tiptronic S is a pretty quick transmission so you should see the same performance as a manual box.

For me its taking a bit of getting used to, the Auto aspect of the box is fine, just cannot get used to the tiptronic controls.

The Turbo never came with manual option, so its a matter of accepting it.

I just need to take it out of Auto more often, practise, practise!

i agree, i cant get on with the tiptronic buttons, why could porsche not use paddles?
i always use the gear leaver, push it over to manual and go "steptronic"

i sometimes hit the tip buttons when i dont mean to.

I love the GTS 6-speed manual... however due to NYC traffic & London traffic as mentioned above Tiptronic is the way to go... plus once you learn how to modulate with gear changing with just your right foot, forget the buttons on the wheel or moving the shifter to the right and pulling back....

I really enjoy the Jackie Robinson aka Interboro in NYC I have the Chesire cat grin when other sedans or SUVs try to follow me through and they never see a brake light driving with the tiptronic... One of these days in the near future I plan to be doing the run in the 6speed manual with PDCC... then I will really test who is following me ... I will be keeping my current baby since it is now the daily driver... The GTS will be my weekend toy...
