Check Engine Oil Level
 

Hi Guys,

This weekend message " Check engine oil level" came on. I have 09 CS with 7000 miles. The oil gauge in the dash is in the middle, how many quarts do I need to add? Is the gauge suppose to be full?
Sorry I could not find the car manual!

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing the oil gauge in the dash measures oil pressure - not fill level.

What does your dip stick say?

Oh.. did not know it was for pressure. Have not checked the stick yet... will do today.

With my CTT when the warning comes on, its at least a quart low. Best to check the dipstick to prevent over filling.

i dont want to sound like a dick here but come on guys.......
any car not just an expensive porsche needs the levels checking regulary.
and im afraid if you dont know what the dials/instruments are for in your car then you should not be driving...there there for your and our safety.

this is basic stuff (101)
please for your safety, read the manual if your not up on cars or basic mantenence, it could save you thousands of $$$ or even a life.
oil/water/tyres/etc need looking at every week, just for piece of mind.

sorry if i sound a bit heavy but this is basics to understand your cars instruments.

I appreciate your comment, no offense taken. In my previous cars, i've never checked Oil/Water (Range Rover Sport, X5, 540i). I depend on the car computer to alert me. And they've never required me to add oil in between services. I drive just as aggressively in those cars... Guess P-cars are a little bit more high maintenance and a higher performance car? I just don't see all the soccer moms check their engine oil level on a weekly basis.

but it was more in reply to not knowing if the guage was "fill level" or oil temp/pressure?
than checking oil level.

Sorry you are having a bad day.. But I honestly did not know the gauge was for oil pressure. I did not have this gauge in the car i drove previously and all of them were pretty low maint.

that gauge is not for oil pressure, it's oil temperature..

Not old enough i guess. No I have not owned a car without a computer in it. Just checked with my neighbor who owned a cayenne for 3 years, never checked oil once during his entire ownership.

So I checked the oil gauge, It was almost completely empty, added 2 quartz and its back about middle. only got 6500 miles on it..

Yes i will make it a habit to check engine oil more often. Thanks all.
