Wheel refinishing

Anybody have experiencing with refinishing wheels that have been damaged from curb scrub and other wear and tear? I have heard of places that can repair wheels for around $50 and wheel. I am asking because i bought my cayenne from up north and the wheels were pretty beat to crap and my only other option is buy a whole new set. Any input?

you could have all 4 wheels repaired for the fraction of the cost of new set of wheels like you mentioned. all wheels can be repaired unless you have cracks or fractures in them. if you dont like the wheels anymore and want to pick up a fresh set thats a different story.

I think if your wheels are original Porsche sells one piece as well. Try your luck.

But I do not personally recommend the repair as it will never be as good as the new.

Drive safe.

If you like the wheels you have now and they just have curb rash and are still straight and round, then definitely get them refinished. There are guys that will do it on the car here, but I would go for a reputable full (off the car) repair if you have a lot of scrapes on them.

I'm sure there are a lot of shop close(r) to you, but in case not.

My brother and I dropped 3 Porsche Cup II wheel sets and center caps at CWS before New Years 2010 for paint refinishing, and just got the last of the parts back, five (5) weeks later. Horrible service and mediocre painting at best. His trial & error approach was additionally painful for us, as the one and-a-half hour roundtrips to his shop to deal with the screw-ups mounted ... final total, four (4) roundtrips.

First problem, the newly painted wheel sets had been slid around his shop's concrete floor, resulting in a slew of nasty scratches on the rear lips. His reply, "well unless they're for a showcar, it's not an issue". Really? He did agree to a touch-up ... another week passes, another trip.

Up front, Paul misled us claiming he has his own paint shop nearby to his office - later we realized it's a shop where he subcontracts paint work. For some reason his paint subcontractor didn't paint the Meteor Gray Metallic factory-color on the edges of the front face lips. Who does that? After mounting tires, the set looked like 4 Oreo cookies. Time now an issue, and after growing frustration, I bought paint and touched-up the edges myself.

Next, the center caps took three passes to get a reasonable finish that color-matched, plus so the paint build-up didn't obliterate the insignias. To add insult to injury, after his subcontractor fouled these up multiple times, Paul charged us for extra paint to correct their errors. The wheel paint is already starting to flake-off in places, probably due to incomplete/improper surface preparation or priming.

BTW, to bolster his cred in the wheel refinishing business after our bad experiences, Paul stated he has a customer who monthly travels from Atlanta to his shop with wheels in suitcases for refinishing. Really? There are surely better wheel refinishing services between LA and Atlanta. Do yourself a favor and avoid Paul and his Custom Wheel Service.

i bought a set OE 20" sport technos with mounted tires soon after i bought my wife a CS. two rims were excellent, the other two had there share of curb rash. i was told by the porsche service rep to contact a company called "alloy wheel repair" which i believe is a franchise company. the guy came out to my house with an outfit comparable to a class c motorhome. next he takes the rims with tires mounted and does the entire procedure in his rig (flattens the tire, sands off the paint, fills and sands the curb rash,repaint/cleargloss and bake. I was not allowed to view the process because of his franchise regulations, but that was pretty much the procedure in a nutshell. took 3 hours, excellent results and 150.00 a wheel
