front brake noise

I've just had my front brake-job completed. I went with Hawk ceramic pads and TriNET rotors, which are drilled and slotted. I'm now noticing a weird 'clunking' noise on braking. The noise occurs as a single, rather loud 'clunk' just as I step on the brakes. It's an intermittent noise, occuring maybe once every 20 applications and (of course) I can't reproduce it on purpose. I suspect that it has something to do with the drill holes and slots vs. the smooth rotor surfaces. There's no performance difference, just the annoying clunk. Any thoughts? What/Why? How to get rid of it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I had the same problem with my 04 CS when I replaced my rotors and pads, and I drove about 3000 miles but it was still making that clunking sound.

I would take it back to the people that replaced your brakes, it doesn't sound right. In order to replace the rotor, the entire caliper is removed and the bolts that are used to hold the caliper in place are a single use bolt that should be replaced each time. It could be your caliper moving slightly under load.

Thanks boys. I'm having my liftgate struts replaced at the end of the month. I'll have 'em peek at the brakes during that visit.
