Tpms diy

I just bought an 04 CTT, and the TMPS doesn't show tire pressure and throws a dash warning lite after approx. 20 minutes of driving. I had Manhattan Motorcars check it out and they said batteries were dead and replace was $1,100. Ouch!

I found the Beru's online for $399. If I buy them can my local tire shop replace the dead ones and get me out of there for a lot less?

Is there anything else to do than just replace the sensors? Will the CTT recognize the new sensors or is there more to it than this?

Anyone with any experience?

Replacing - yes thats easy - any tire shop can do it.

Working with your receiver, that I do not know. Why not just buy these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-OEM...Q5fAccessories

I found brand new OEM online for $390 at http://www.precisionframe.com/store7...ruRDE005RDV001

The problem with used is you don't know how much battery is left. From what I understand, the batteries in these last approx. 7 years and cannot be replaced, so you need new sensors. With a 2004 it seems mine lasted just under seven years.

Still interested in any opinions on whether the vehicle will automatically recognize these or if something more complex needs to be done.

I did, and i bought them from damon. I found the on the web for $10 less, but why bother when Tirerack is such a reputable option. Should arrive this week. If they don't go in seamlessly I'll post here

Ok, they didn't go in seamlessly. Had them installed by local DE tech guy who knows Porsches. Followed instructions in manual to have them 'learn," but after 30 miles or so of driving, I still get an error message.

Any ideas?

Here is what comes to mind:
  1. incorrect sensors - unlikely, Damon knows his stuff
  2. sensors did not get installed - unlikely, tech sounds competant
  3. sensors all defective - unlikely, brand new
  4. did not drive long enough - unlikely, you drove pretty far
  5. issue on the vehicle side - at least possible since most of the above are unlikely.

TPMS can be coded off and since they have never worked, this should at least be considered.
