Porsche introduces new model: Cayman S
Eric, I'm not so sure it's not aimed at 911 buyers. I'm sure there will be as many 911 buyers moving to the Cayman as there will be Boxster buyers moving toward it - 911 buyers who want a lighter, tighter handling car, and Boxster owners who don't need the soft top and want more performance overall. Win-win for PAG, plus they draw new buyers from the SLK55 and possibly Evo/STI crowds with those hp numbers.
Here's the best pic I've seen, and it looks HOT.

I believe this car is aimed squarely at the EVO and WRX markets where guys are investing $45-60K in their fast cars and they still are not achieveing the feel, balance and pure driving experience that a Porsche delivers.
The name will stick.
The name will stick.
295 to the rear wheels? that has GOT to be a misprint, although i wish it wasn't.
the evo/wrx crowd? i don't see that at all. the tuner market does not compete with the porsche market overly much, i don't think, or vice versa. the tuner market is as much about the FastNFurious image as it is about performance. the M96 engine does not even lend itself to tuning, much less nos. also, since it is priced OVER the boxster, the cayman will cost a lot more than a wrx/evo.
if done right, this is the car that pushes the 911 into the GT class (where it almost already is) and becomes the new sports car for Porsche.
i can't wait!

Problem with "cheaper" Porsches is that they cut corners to maintain their profit margins.
This car most likely won't have dry sump lubrication, swappable gear ratios, or lightweight suspension parts like the true enthusiast "GT" models.
If this car gets a GT3 motor, RS suspension, and 6 piston brakes, then I'm in.
But the real question is why would Porsche cannibalize 911 sales like this? There is no way a Cayman will detract GT3 buyers, but it does make a C2 buyer think twice...

it's not about model it's about money. Boxster saved Porsche before Cayman is gonna make more money for Porsche. who doesn't do that nowadays i.e MB E-class - CLS-class - S-class. they make it because people will buy it. Porsche just give it a new name but it's nothing else besides a Boxster coupe.

This is Porsche's "affordable" true sports car. I understand the name change - to distance it from the feminine persona Boxster - just can't comprehend the actual name. If Porsche gets rid of the Chapman rear struts in favor for multilink, this may become the grounds for their next RSR race car.
