Headlights must be removed for a bulb replacement?

My wifes 2009 cayenne has different color lights. I think the original owner bulb burnt out and they just replaced it with anything.

Im going to purchase the 6k hid bulbs, just wondering if i have to remove the headlights or can i reach back there?

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Removing the entire headlight is one of the easiest in all the vehicles ive owned. You need the light wrench for this so find it in your tool kit and pop them out. Very easy. Then put at arm level on the counter and work away.

The headlights have to be pulled out as far as I know, tools in the trunk (white), should have directions in the owners manual as well as illustrations.

Just make sure you do the following...:

1)Replace both light bulbs at the same time, and don't touch the glass on the lights with your fingers

2)Be careful when putting the housings back in, it is really easy to strip the aluminum gears on the latch system.....which will end up costing you an additional $76 for a new base plate!! (ask me how I know this...lol)

Don't strip the gear but make sure they are locked in place. You'll want a nice "pop". Helps to push in the headlights when cranking them back in.

Also, if you are going 6000k, don't get the cheap stuff Chinese or you will be changing them again. I've had good luck with Philips Ultinons.

Light Replacement

Can anyone elablorate on how to lock the headlights back into place? I had one out to replace a turn signal (though I am not entirely sure the assembly or contact hasnt gone bad) and after some wiggling of the assembly to get it back in place I thought it had locked back int. Well when I looked at it from the side it looked a bit out of place and sure enough I was able to pull the lens completely out again. After a few more minutes it thought I had it positioned correctly and everything was working.

It was a much different story this morning -I had all 4 warning lights for one of the headlight pods go off on the way to the office this morning, so something is definitely not locked in place.
From looking at the design it would appear as thought the metal piece should swing up from the recess and lock the light back into place. Is this correct? I just want to make sure I am not missing a step here.
Thanks for the help -

That is correct. as you turn the tool (with light out) you will see the locking bar rotate up that is "locked" just make sure you get the guides for the headlight itself lined up right. I did mine a week ago.. was having a hard time at first but then slide right in. But yes helps if you push lightly on the light as you turn the tool to lock it in. Seating the light somtimes sucks. I am taking mine to the dealer in the morning for a turn signal light they fixed a week ago and is still out. These lights can be very tempermental.

I am having the same problem so decided to consult with you guys. So I kept getting the dipped beam warning, so I took out the headlight to check the connectors and what not. The only problem is when I tried to lock it back in, I stripped and cracked the mounting bracket. Now my question is where can you order the headlight mounting bracket from? and also is the installation difficult did you have to take the bumper off? your help is appreciated. Any more input on the dip beam warning would also help thanks

I was getting a few "light outs" errors as well. My headlight was locked-in. So, I took it out, then removed that 'jumper' it plugs into and tried to plug it into the headlight...but it would not seat. I couldn't figure out why. I removed the orange seal from the plug and it just plugged fully in. Obviously something wrong there. I kept it off and re-assembled. So far its fine. Next step would be to permanently mount that plug in the headlight.

As for the parts, I've always found Suncoast Porsche has the best prices and is a sponsor on this board.

Can't help with the technical stuff but, if you don't get a reply, you might want to poke around the Renntech forums http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?act=home
