New Turbo back from the shop: PCM eye opener
New Turbo back from the shop: PCM eye opener
Returning home from the dealership last Saturday with new CT in hand I took the family out to dinner. Back in the car post-pasta I discovered that the 16 XM stations that I had saved were gone!
Strangely, they reemerged the next day when I drove the car, but then seemingly evaporated in the afternoon.
Opened the manuel. Read about setting stations. Precisely followed the directions. Completed the arduous task of resetting the stations, only to have them disappear this past Monday.
So at this point I'm frustrated. Admittedly, my first mistake was not logging onto my beloved 6speed forum and asking for help. But when I did, the only PCM issue I could find was a software upgrade.
(second mistake) I call my sales rep (unfortunately not Alex, the articulate and knowledgable sales manager but Dan, the rep that greeted me at the door. dan represents to me that others have had this problem, and that i should call the service dept.
So I do... Service repeats Dan's mantra and schedules an appointment. Dealership provides me a crappy 2007 Lincoln SUV which I spend hours in (I know I am sounding spoiled, clearly am... but I had called the dealership Monday to reserve a P car for Thursday - a poor way to treat a customer IMHO).
So yesterday... after sending an employee an hour north in the beat up Lincoln to pick up the car, the staffer returns and advises that the presets are linked to the 18 way adjustable seats. No follow up by the service manager (BTW, this is the same service manager who took my order for service w/o any mention of the linkage between seats and presets).
Grrrrr!
I now understand that we need to SAVE our seat preset should we adjust the seat, mirrors, etc., in any manner; otherwise we will loose our presets. I suppose it's an interesting feature with sub par application with apparent little education at the dealership level.
Hope this saves the next guy some time and gray hair

You won't loose what has already been locked in, but the new things you set will not be retained unless you lock it in with the seat memory. Even settings such as daytime driving lights, whether right side mirror moves down when parking, etc. Just about every setting that can be changed and individualized to a driver. If you change any setting with the vehicle, lock it in with the seat memory buttons.

Thanks Duffy. I'm thrilled that it all works. Just need to remember that that if one saves PCM settings, and doesn't lock them in with updated seat changes, the settings can be lost.
Duffy, i have an 08 TT modified @630 +/-hp with only 13,000 miles. Considering a trade this summer /fall on a 2011 or 2012 997 TT S. You have both vehicles; aside from the new PCM (which I dig), how much handling, performance variance will I notice (i.e., is it worth dropping $50k-$60k to upgrade from a performance standpoint?

I definitely would NOT spend the money to upgrade until the new 99? arrives in a few years. My '08 has a GIAC flash and AWE exhaust and I really can't tell that there is very much difference between the cars - certainly not a $50k difference. I bought the Turbo S to replace a Bentley GTC that my wife drove and and disliked, not because of upgrading. Before this happened, I almost traded my Turbo for a Turbo S and went through the same decision process. It didn't take me long to realize I would be spending a lot to get a little. Hope this helps and gives a little insight as to why I bought the Turbo S. It really was happenstance the way it happened. New (almost) Turbo S purchased today.
