Oil leak starts with $1700 diagnosis and then goes up
Arrg! We found one tranny rebuilder with what we thought was the right part and have now found that Porsche must have changed the spec as mentioned above because the piece received it a tiny bit different.
Aisin changed the specs on it!!
Att’d are 4 pics—2 of your existing pump gear center bearing (new roller style) and smaller ID (~44.09mm) pump gear, and 2 of the used pump center bearing (old style) and larger ID(~44.91mm) pump gear.
I measured each ID and then pulled the mic out of the center bore in order to take a picture of it.
Since the used pump gear ID is over 0.75mm larger, it has a bit of slop when put on the nose of the torque converter (your existing pump gear of course has no slop). So unfortunately this pump assembly won’t work for us due to this slop as you’d be relying on the fragile tangs to take up the slop/play vs having the ID of the pump gear fit the end of the torque converter securely/correctly. L
I’m trying to see if we can return this used pump assembly.
Since this was the only used one I was able to find, I’m afraid the next step will be the reman’d OEM transmission which requires a new tranny control module(so the vehicle would then need to go to Sunset for recoding)—about $5200 or so.

I am having my mechanic check on a machine shop option, though have no experience with this and wonder if they could create a part if we do not have a perfect example to replicate.
That really sucks! So hard to believe that parts are not available for these vehicles. Any chance that the torque converter could be altered to accomodate the new pump? You already have the dimensions that the piece needs to be for proper clearance... I would be so pissed, you handle yourself very well considering the situation you are facing! Best of luck and hope all goes well.
I feel sick about this, but have to keep moving forward so am just biting the bullet. We have been researching options for a couple of weeks, but now just have to go. I would much rather spend the $$ on upgrades or something else, but it could happen to a honda as easy as CTT I imagine.
Thanks for the well wishes.
