So I'm in the market for a Cayenne S...

pretty sure I want to go the used car route. I have a few questions:

1. Is there any model year I should avoid? Is first model year fair game...or were there enough changes/fixes that I should only look for second model year and on?

2. What options are must have versus can get them later?

3. What kind of pricing am I looking at...assuming that I only look for cars with the must have options from question 2? I'm thinking I want to be in the 40-45k market.

4. Discounts available or is supply short.

5. Any chance of getting a monster discount on a new car just sitting on the lot?

Thanks

Pritam

As long as they preformed the recalls you should be fine. Must have options imo are sensors, air suspension, nav. You will get a really good discount if its an older model sitting at the lot.

usually the 40-45k price cars are not optioned well meaning no navi. I think it looks wierd without the navi. I hardly use mine but without it looks like crap.
the discounts i have seen are from 4 to 6k.
at the year end u can get maybe up to 8k but those are sitting on the lot.
options must have is xenon, navi. heated seats, window roll up shades and bose.

Prices are all over the place...

from low forties for 03's (probably avoid) to high forties for good color and option 04's ( I have one of those for sale as well) to middle fifties asking prices for 04's with lots of options and Porsche warranties. As long as there seem to be no nagging issues, I think they are good buys. I've had three used 04's, with no real issues, and will do it again after I sell this one, circumstances allowing. Makes sense, unless leasing is advantageous on a new one for you.

window roll up shade is a must have? That's a joke, right?

Mine is pretty option-less, and I love it. No real worries.
Only thing I mind a bit are no heated seats, they are nice, and the no bose. I am correcting the stereo with a 12" sub which should take all my aprehensions far far away, and the heated seats are not that big of a deal. Get what you like, and can get.
But make sure the car is painted. That would suck otherwise.

2003 a good buy

I just bought a 2003 CS w/o Navigation. The options I have are 19inch wheels, moonroof, heated seats, xenons, and bose system. I filled the gap under the stereo with an aftermarket bluetooth adapter and XM sat radio controller. i've only put about 1,200 miles on it but I absolutely love it. Paid $46k w/15.5k miles on it. Car is Titanium with Grey leather interior.

i can't say I don't miss the Navigation, more for the cool factor than anything else.. i've been thinking about putting a stereo system in it, so that being said, paying for the Navi kit didn't make much sense.

Makes my 04...

with 18k and more options look like a god buy at $50ish...
I tend to agree that it's going to be tough to get something desirable at less than the high 40ish price point, At least right this second. Yes, you can probably get a several thousand dollar discount on a new 05, but with the good options, that puts you around 65 MSRP, and even with $5k off, that's 60 plus the usual big city dealer fees, etc.

for me it's a must have. I ordered a car because most did not have the combo i was looking for. I love the darkness, if it was up to me, i would tint the front window.

let's put it this way xenons and roll up sun shades were deal breakers in the month of december 2004. I know i am silly.
