I would like to fill up the fender gap a bit and have been looking at oversizing my tires. Stock is 28.7 inches roughly and I would like to add two inches diameter to run a 275 40 22 or similar. Anyone tried this. It seems like I can fit another inch without rubbing on the A-arm bolt in the front.

Did the transsyberia have a non-stock front end? They ran a 265 65 18 if I remember correctly, which will be 31.6 diameter. Smaller width and different offset would clear the stock bolt, I guess.

Ideas anyone?

 

I am using 305/35/22 on 2009 Cayenne GTS with Techart lowering module. Very very slight rubbing on the plastic wheel well lining in the front when the wheels are turned all the way and driven in low level setting, but no rubbing on the bolts etc. It actually look good in my opinion

 

A 285/35/22 fills up the wheel wells quite nicely. You want more...go up to a 285/35/23...they look huge. Get a wheel with et50 or more (preferably et45) and you will fill it up well. Lower an inch or so and it'll look perfect. I went with 315/25/23 but next time I'll get the 285/35/23 because they're taller and look bigger.

 

I'm interested in running 265/65/18 as well. Anyone have experience with this?

 

The 285 35 22 are just shy of 30". The 23 would be another inch. If the 285 35 23 fit, then the 275 40 22 will fit. I need the 40 profile since the roads in Michigan are bad in some areas.

 

I like the idea of 275 40 22 etc but talking to few shops, they suggested that adding to rolling diameter will have the following effects:

1. Your speedo-meter will be off, which is not that a big of a deal as you can estimate Standard deviation and drive accordingly
2. i was told it might burn the tranny as it is having to work harder. you also have a Gallardo. i am not sure if you heard of guys going 20s all around on their Gs and messing up the tranny.

285/35/23 fit no problem and that's BS about it being hard on your driveline. It's only a problem if you stagger the wheels(taller rears than fronts)with an all wheel drive car and even then, the difference in wheel size must be more than 3-5%. I don't know about a gallardo but that is a bit more of a delicate machine than a truck. Cayenne is actually built quite sturdy and to take some abuse. Your spedo might be marginally off but you won't notice it.

 

I don't have any concerns about the driveline. My concern is merely rim damage with the pot holes we have here. I normally try to run a 45-50 profile minimum to have more side area and give the rims a break. I tend to go through a few more rims otherwise.
